Will You Work for This Sixteen Year Old One Day?

If you haven’t seen this video, stop, drop and roll clip. It’s a classic.

Zach Katz a sixteen year old from DC (not that I’m stalking him), is insightful and funny and gosh darned cute. (Really, not stalking).

This suburban teen’s raps are smarter than most college textbooks. Which he can now afford to buy without daddy’s help since his YouTube channel is smokin’ hot. Some videos lead with full-on ads, not just little pop ups. Go Katz!

What does this have to do with working in a startup? Nothing. Except that unless this clever rhymer grows up and becomes jaded and crass and replaces Daniel Tosh on late night TV (Katz 3.0?), he just may be your future entrepreneur boss.

So get to know him. Enjoy.

    Loved it 🙂

I think you are absolutely correct. Youtube is giving some talented youth opportunities to entertain and actually make some decent money at an early age.

The video reminded me of the gamers who now get paid to stream their matches of Starcraft or Street Fighter. There are kids who just sit and commentate high level replays of computer games and make money doing that. Some have started their own web series. The list goes on and on.

Once these young folk get a taste for making money doing the things they love, I don’t see them working for someone else much longer.

Yeah it seems crazy, right? I can’t think of any games we played when I was a kid that would have made us enough money to do anything other than stalk the ice cream truck.

I think Zach is so bright, I’m sure if it wasn’t this, he’d be doing something else that would lead to him being the boss one day. If you search this rap on YouTube you’ll see some of this other raps. I Used to Think is also a great one.

      Glad you enjoyed it!

    Hi Kathy,
This is some cool rap. I could not help but smile when he talked about birthday card with no money inside. I think money is really becoming a driver of all entrepreneur activities these days.
The important thing is to see, if he keeps the creativity he has when he has earned money and fame . We have seen a lot of talented people losing the interest once they achieve the fame.
However, it is just great to see youngsters using internet to its fullest. We too can learn something from them.

I’m not worried. I think he’s got it going on. My favorite line (and acting) is the “my freezer makes my ice cream too hard to scoop…why try?” Cracks me up.

      Thanks for the comment Ashvini!

    Kathy, this is priceless.

    And you are right.

Many of us will be working for him some day.

It’s a new world with the millenniums taking it over.

But it could be a lot of fun too.

It’s so cool to meet you – (through Corinne) and I love this video – these young people seem so bright and entrepreneurial they can’t help but be successful. “back in my day” we had to work work work for it. I think it’s all about attitude and I’ve gotten a new one since ‘back in the day’. Have fun, be entrepreneurial, make money, be successful.

Hey Michelle: Back at ya. Thanks for checking out the blog.

Yeah, this kid blows me away with his creativity. He’s definitely got attitude (and wicked smarts, as they say) but I’m betting his doing his share of ‘work, work, working’ to get these videos written, produced and launched. I’ve seen some professional work that’s not nearly as…well…professional.

Glad you found your ‘tude as well!! Thanks for the comment.
